The work will take place in Semester Two of the students academic year, from April to May 2007. Jos Boys says:”This project has enormous personal benefit because it ties in so directly with my wider work on diversity and the built environment in creative, research and teaching practice. The artist participants will benefit from the opportunity of developing their work within a design studio contex.” Artists and students will record their experiences of their shared days through individual records. Students will also be asked to upload design work in progress to the Inside Out: Discursive Spaces blog for shared comments, review and ongoing debates. As the project progresses Jos Boys will work with the web accessibility consultant (Enable UK) and the web-designers (Surface Impression) to plan and design new Inside Out web site content and content management system (CMS) structure. Throughout June 2007, this will then be incorporated into the Inside Out website, with supporting downloadable resources as appropriate. A one day workshop, to be hosted by CAE (Centre for Accessible Environments, www.cae.org.uk) for teachers of architecture and related subjects, will look at how to integrate Inside Out work as an educational resource. Further to this, an accessible, exhibition will follow the project. This will be displayed initially as part of the University of Brighton’s End of Year show, within the Interior Architecture students London based show and at the Centre for Accessible Environments (CAE). Other venues such as the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), the Design Council, the V&A Architecture Gallery and the Royal College of Art will be invited to display the work. There are also plans to feature the results as an on-line resource for HE design teachers, signposted to all UK architectural and related design courses via the Centre for the Built Environment (CEBE) and the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning in Design (CETLD). In conclusion an evaluation report will explore the issues raised, and review the effectiveness of the project. Finally it will make recommendations for both good practice in other collaborations and for possible future developments.
